Maximizing your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) value from YouTube videos is a great way to hook potential customers. Only produce videos if you are going to say only what needs to be said. No one wants to be flooded with YouTube videos from your company if you don’t have anything of value to share, unless it is downright hilarious.

Here are a few pointers to keep in mind if you plan to use YouTube to boost your SEO value.

  1. Always place your URL in the first section of the description of your videos. Adding this link will help you raise your click through rate about two times higher on videos as opposed to not adding your URL as a link. Also, you might receive links from sites when people scrape content from YouTube. You never know when this may be a highly sought after link.
  2. Monitor your YouTube Videos. On YouTube there is an Insight button that provides data on your video’s progress. If you click the embed report this will show you which sites have embedded your video into their site. This immediately presents you with an opportunity to contact these sites directly to thank them, get feedback, and ask if they would be willing to link directly to your site. If sites link directly to your video, then you can also contact them directly to build a relationship with them. The sites listed in your external links report will most likely not be ones that you can contact directly. However, you are still able to see where your video is being linked and identify if there is a pattern.
  3. Advertise your video on your site or blog. Go further than simply creating a video and depending on viewers to conduct a universal search. Post on your site a description of your video so that this description will be indexed in search engines. Google search will sometimes show the video above your webpage. You should always write a brief summary of your videos and post it to your site in case your video does not pop up in a universal search.
