- Social networking will move to the next level as more creative ideas are translated into apps for Facebook and similar sites.
- Content Management Systems (CMS) will continue to rise in popularity. In particular, the following CMS solutions will break away from the rest of the pack: Joomla, Drupal, WordPress (not technically a CMS), DotNetNuke, and osCommerce.
- Apps for iPhone, Blackberry, and Windows Mobile will continue to rise in popularity. There is talk that mobile phone makers may be required to offer all phones on all networks (e.g., iPhone on all networks and not just AT&T). If this becomes a reality, even more apps will be developed as new customers have the option to buy phones that were previously only available on other networks.
- PCI compliance will lead to many businesses struggling at the last second to meet new requirements.
- Web 3.0 will begin to evolve into a concrete idea. The third generation of the World Wide Web is usually conjectured to include semantic tagging of content but the details have yet to develop into a widely accepted concept.
